So the heat and a/c work in my car, except the blower doesn’t....sometimes. The blower will work for a week then stop, they will start working again for another week. Any ideas as to why?

I’ve verified that the heat and a/c do indeed work too; you can faintly feel it. Im just really confused as to why the blower works for most of the time, then apparently doesn't, only to work again the next day. I'm thinking an electrical problem?

My guess would be corrosion on one of the connections. Maybe a blower motor on its way out.

definitly electrical, could be a corroded connection, could be a bad relay, could be a bad fan. Look up the EWD for your vehicle and try and isolate the circuit on paper, then get a multi-meter out and start doing continuity testing.

Any ideas as to why?

Yeah, late 90s/early 2000s GM. The dash lights in my dad’s former 02 Regal would sometimes work, other times it’d just be dark.

It’s a 07, and GM did a few things different on these models. Didn’t say right, just different .

Electric Wiring Diagram

I got a new used blower fan, just not a new resistor.

electrical wiring diagram.

has it been doing anything like only working on the full speed setting? Could be a burned out resistor pack.

Normally when a resistor goes, the blower will still work on full speed. The resistor will limit voltage on the lower speeds and electricity bypasses it on full blast. Does it work all the time on full blast? Or is that inop too?

When it stops working, the fan doesn’t activate on any setting.

Where’s the best place to get one? A dealership? One of those manuals for the car?

I found mine on the vehicle forums. Haynes/Chilton have them too, but they are a little broad.

I’d guess blower motor resistor. I’ve had 2 GMs of that vintage that have both had the resistor crap out. Assuming you can get to it easily, it’s a pretty simple swap.

blower motors fail slowly but so do their speed controllers. Different cars have different resistance control panels for the blower motors in which the symptoms are pretty much the same. Only thing is that at maximum level, the controller is pretty much bypassed to full 12V. If it starts failing again, turn it up to max speed and see if it works. If it does, I say the blower motor is on it’s last leg. Before all that though, check all connectors, connector pins, and wiring. Try to find a EWD online

Well I just tested it, the speed is according to the dial. But at top speed it seems to whine I think. Not sure, but a new sound happens.

Probably something to do with the resistor. What year/make/model is it? I have access to Alldata Pro. I’ll see if I can get you a wiring diagram.

Also, if I can find it, I’ll email you a copy. What’s your email?

My stupid grand prix did that too. I fixed it when it wasn’t turning by kicking it (seriously). I ended up putting a hole in the fan housing and replacing it and the bad fan. 5

I know exactly where it is, but it’s riveted in (thanks GM!). It’s why I didn’t pull one from my last junkyard visit.

Zeontestpilot at gmail.

It’s a ‘07 Pontiac Grand Prix, base model, 3.8 L engine, not SC.

And thanks!

On my Sierra it was not only the ballast resister, but a bit of the wiring harness to it that went bad. I got new replacements from Napa for not too much money. The problem with junkyard parts for these, is they’re usually bad too.

Just died again. Fan at full speed, no air. So what does that mean?

Our Aston service adviser’s blower motor just failed in his 05 GTO lol. We even put a power probe to it directly and it wouldn’t spin. His will need a new blower motor. Your Pontiac might need the same one

I happen to have a spare one from a junkyard; I plugged that in too and it still doesn’t work. I’m guessing something else is wrong further up the line?

check fuse to start but if you have a way to put direct 12v to the blower motors to see if they run, try that. If they both run perfect, you need a test light or meter to put on the connector to see if the commands of the CCM are going through/
